August 2017: White House Visit to Discuss Small Business Concerns
from the desk of Misty Mayes, PMP, President
Earlier this month, I had the privilege and the honor to be in a group of about 100 small business owners who were invited to meet with President Trump, Ivanka Trump and Linda McMahon, the administrator of the Small Business Administration at the White House for a discussion on “American Small Business – The Engine of the American Dream.” I was impressed that the SBA had all their executive leadership at the event. When we walked into the room, the administrator, her chief of staff and senior executives came up to each person, introduced themselves and said we want to hear your stories; we want to find out how we can help; we want to find out how we’re doing in the field. It was really a humbling experience to have that caliber of resources speaking with each of us and asking what they could do better.
In our meeting with President Trump, it was particularly interesting to hear what he, Ivanka and the SBA administrator had discovered in the last 6 months and on the campaign trail, particularly related to how issues surrounding small business really transcend industry and demographics. They talked about three key pain points for small business owners.
