Environmental Services at the Intersection of Contracting, Consulting, and Engineering

Updated: Sep 6, 2022

The need to comply with changing environmental regulatory requirements poses a challenge for many of Management Solutions’ clients. Our environmental professionals include subject matter experts well versed in Federal and State environmental regulations to ensure that your organization is within compliance for both government and commercial sectors.

Lee Walter, PE, the Practice Lead for Management Solutions’ Environmental Services Division has quickly assembled a strong team to partner with Department of Defense clients for research, reporting, site investigations/monitoring, remediation and site closure activities. The MSLLC team is preparing Finding and Determination of Eligibility (FDE) documents for eighty (80) Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) properties all over the United States that are lacking eligibility documentation in support of an audit of program completeness. Management Solutions performs day-to-day project management of the process, archival research, final production of all project deliverables while overseeing staff from our primary subcontractor.

The Environmental Division continues to expand its efforts under the strong business development efforts of Greg Grim, PE, at other sites including the Jefferson Proving Grounds in Indiana and the former Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant site on the grounds of the NASA Stennis Space Center. “The Environmental Division is excited to continue our rapid growth on our first two long term groundwater monitoring projects with the Louisville Corps of Engineers. We look forward to assisting the Corps with closure on the Jefferson Proving Grounds and Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant sites,” says Walter.

For these USACE long term monitoring projects, Management Solutions performs environmental groundwater sampling and monitoring, remedial planning, site maintenance and as well as supplemental remediation implementation services to advance the sites toward closure.

“The goal of our work at former Jefferson Proving Grounds and Mississippi Army Ammunition sites is to support USACE management with work required under CERCLA to minimize risk to human health, obtain site closure, and position the site for beneficial use,” says Walter. Once sites are cleaned up, monitored, and closed, they may be redeveloped or repurposed. “Building on our other successful project work with the Corps, we will be performing long-term groundwater monitoring at the Stennis Space Center site in support of the Corps’ site closure program,” says Walter.

Walter adds, “We are thrilled with the rapidly developing ability of the Environmental Division to deliver measurable, sustainable positive change for our clients, fueled in large part by the expansion of our team.” In recent months, the Environmental Division team has welcomed two geologists, and an environmental specialist to the team. Our most recent talent acquisition includes Senior Geologist/Project Manager Sam Smith. Sam comes to MSLLC with over thirty years’ experience in the Environmental Consulting field and vast project background with USACE.
